I have clients who want to make changes to their home to boost the interiors but don't have a lot of spare cash to spend. A good interior isn't all about spending a lot of money. If you are on a budget, there are ways to spice up your home.
1. Picture Wall A wall of art doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Collect frames from charity shops, car boots, friends. Give them a lick of paint to unify them, then fill them with your favourite pictures. These could be photos, posters, pictures your talented child has made. Once you have framed them, then lie them on the floor and work out where they are going to go in relation to each other. Also, plan the spaces in between. In most cases, the spaces must be uniform distance. Once planned, and you are happy - get nailing to the wall!
2. Be bold with wallpaper Why not give some smaller rooms an update. Maybe you have a man cave or your own studio. There are lots of companies out there doing wacky but cool wallpaper.
3. Organise your home Do you see desirable homes full of clutter? Hmmmm - you have to find a way of getting rid of it. Easier said than done for some people. My mum was a hoarder and I think I have a little of it in my blood. I always think - "it might come in useful" so I won't throw it away. Well if I can do it, so can you. And if you can't, you can employ people who can come and do it for you.
4. Inject colour and interest through your rug
I have witnessed, especially on a wooden floor, that a rug ties the room together. Not only will it add warmth and reduce echo in a room, if chosen carefully it can also link items in the room. On of my clients had a rug made by rugcourture.com recently. We were able to get samples of the different wool swatches and match the colours from the room together.
5. Mix it up Mix up patterns and textures, old and new, expensive and inexpensive. An interior should reflect who you are, your personality and your style. It should contain items that are important to you and have items that can tell a story. Modern and traditional can co-exist together. With fabrics, whether is be furniture, rugs or pillows, colours and patterns can bring warmth and texture into your living space.
